Jake Gyllenhaal is an American actor. He is the son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner. He started acting as a child. His first movie was City Slickers. He was also starred in A Dangerous Woman (1993) and Homegrown (1998). He is recognized for his role as Homer Hickam in October Sky (1999). In 2001 he received Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Male Lead for playing the title character in the indie cult hit Donnie Darko. He also appeared in some indie films The Good Girl (2002), The Day After Tomorrow (2004).

Jake also played Anthony “Swoff” Swofford role in 2005 in the movie and also Harold Dobbs in Proof, and Jack Twist in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain. He won BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture, and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
